KEN KONCHEL    gallerybiographyphd exhibitionfeatured pressfeatured press

Ken Konchel's award winning black and white photography is highly sought after and represented in many collections including The Illinois Institute of Art- Chicago, The Ralph Lauren Home, The Associated General Contractors of St. Louis, Triad Bank, Deloitte & Touche, The Sprint Corporate Collection, and The St. Louis Renaissance Hotel.

In his artist's statement, he remarks that he is drawn to the expressive power of buildings. His passion is recording individual buildings, their details, and the way individual buildings play off each other in an original and provocative way. He states that his challenge is to highlight the diverse characteristics of buildings in order to promote the idea that our architectural surroundings contribute immeasurably to our quality of life.

Professor Carl Safe of Washington University in St. Louis writes: "The poetic power of Konchel's work is directly related to his skill in selecting critical relationships between these components. He has no interest in telling us the whole story. The images are strategically (surgically) selected to capture intersections, assemblies, rhythms and patterns that are critical to the essence of the object or place."
