Working in the media of printmaking and painting, D. LeRoy Lottmann focuses on formal concerns; controlling the relationships between shapes, while directing light and shadow through various marks, textures, colors, and tonal gradations. The emotional context of the piece, based upon Lottmann's response to social issues of his life and times, is layered on top of this compositional structure.
Lottmann received his MFA from Arizona State University, Tempe. He is an adjunct professor at Savannah College of Art and Design in Savannah, Georgia. He also teaches at Forest Park Community College in St. Louis.
His work is included in numerous collections including the Scottsdale Museum of Contemporary Art and The ASU Art Museum at the Nelson Fine Arts Center in Arizona.
