Playful. Quirky. Deceptively benign. The offbeat sculpture and drawings of Polly Saputo hook you with their zaniness and irresistibility, then give you deeper meaning to consider. Says the artist, "I am interested most in the visual one-liner and the juxtaposition of found objects."
Jeff Daniel of The St. Louis Post Dispatch writes, "Saputo pieces border on the absurd and surreal, and nearly all of her sculptures give a nod to folk art sensibility-- the use of found objects, the prevalence of religious icons and the intricate melding of the real and the bizarre."
Polly Saputo attended St Louis Community College at Forest Park for two years with a major concentration in drawing and sculpture. She subsequently received her BFA from Lindenwood University in painting, and her MFA in sculpture from the Tyler School of Art at Temple University in Philadelphia. Saputo lives and works in St. Louis and teaches at Saint Louis Community College Meramec where she is responsible for a variety of studio and lecture classes, including Drawing I and II, Design I, Introduction to Art Appreciation, Art History I and II, Humanities and History of Modern Art.
