STAN TRAMPE    gallerybiographyphd exhibitionbookfeatured pressfeatured press

Stan Trampe is a self-taught photographer who became serious about photography in 1987, at the age of 56, after spending years in St. Louis commercial real estate. With a passion to create fine art nude images, sparked by a book on black and white photography by Robert Farber, he designed and built his own darkroom and photo studio in his loft. Trampe became so accomplished that in 1999, he was tapped by Amherst Media to publish a photographic instructional book titled Black and White Nude Photography. Says the photographer of his work: "My preference is to photograph a particular model over a period of one or more years. Doing so builds a remarkable rapport that improves the work. The model and I are frequently co-creators. While I photograph in all kinds of light, my favorite is back and side lighting with one light source. In my opinion, this allows me to express more drama and create more visual interest than with a complex array of studio lights and reflectors."
